WIN-SA is a network of organisations focusing on improving knowledge sharing in the water and sanitation sector, targeting decision makers in government and non-government water services sector. These organisations all have a vested interest in information and knowledge generation and dissemination to local government. They are trying to ensure the body of knowledge in the sector is well managed, readily accessible and applicable, and will lead to improved decision-making and performance in the area of water and sanitation.
Networks of informal relationships have a critical influence on work and innovation. The Research shows that appropriate connectivity in well-managed networks within organizations can have a substantial impact on performance, learning, and innovation (Jay Liebowitz:2009) . The 2008 strategic assessment for the repositioning of the Water Information Network –South Africa recognized the role that social networks can contribute towards strengthening of the WIN-SA network.
The WIN-SA social network which is supported by the Ning platformis aimed at enablingstakeholders to share information and exchange ideas on best and bad practices, challenges, events, articles or any issues that can contribute to improved sustainable service delivery.
Members are able to add friends and link up with former and current colleagues, exchange photos, , upload your events and invite members , upload videos and share links on relevant water resources management documents. The platform enables members to start and facilitate group discussions, blogs and online chats.
Privacy: The network is open to anyone subject to membership approval by the WIN-SA team. Network members have full access to their privacy settings to determine who they want to link to, approval of comments posted on their blogs etc. The network administrator can also set the network to be accessible to invited members.
